On Friday evening, April 19th, 2024, 㽶Ƶ Psychiatry Residents and CAP Fellows started
their weekend spring retreat. The retreat was held at from April 19th to April 21st. The retreat began Friday evening with dinner followed
by games and s'mores at a bonfire. On Saturday, the residents and fellows had a full
day of presentations and activities on post graduate mental and physical wellness,
financial planning, painting, and an outdoor competitive activity. Saturday's programming
ended with a communal dinner for residents, fellows, faculty, staff, and guests, with
opportunities for connection and camaraderie after.
We would like to thank the residents, fellows, presenters, faculty, and staff for
helping to make the 2024 Resident and Fellow Spring Retreat possible and successful!

On Friday, March 15, 2024, Morehouse School of Medicine's Psychiatry Residency Program
announced the incoming residents for the upcoming academic year. We are happy to introduce
you to our incoming interns for 2024. We are excited to be a part of their training
in Psychiatry as they embark upon this next stage of their careers.
Dr. Wahenoor Anand
Incoming Resident
Dr. Wahenoor Anand is from Alpharetta, Georgia. He received a B.S. degree in Biology
from the University of Georgia, and his medical degree from Philadelphia College of
Osteopathic Medicine.
"With continual refinements in medical knowledge, intersectional training, and empathy,
I aspire to embrace a biopsychosocial model to focus on systematic mental illnesses,
utilize advancements in neurobiology and physio-pharmacology, and improve patients'
overall quality of life through an integrative medicine lens."
Dr. Naima Bakari
Incoming Resident
Dr. Naima Bakari is from Inglewood, California. She received a B.A. degree in Psychology
from Spelman College, her M.B.S. in Health Science from Meharry Medical College, and
her medical degree from Meharry Medical College.
"Within my roles as staff and student, I've found that many in these communities hope
to be heard and informed. Being a part of the patients' team to further our work towards
their betterment is a privilege, and I am dedicated to working towards that purpose.”
Dr. Jason Iyobhebhe
Incoming Resident
Dr. Jason Iyobhebhe is from Aston, Pennsylvania. He received a B.S. degreee in Biology
from Millersville University. Dr. Iyobhebhe is a graduate of Moreschool School of Medicine!
"The field of medicine enabled me to preserve the priceless gift of sight. I am determined
to employ this sight to envision a future wherein I utilize treatment to ensure that
our patients are afforded a fair chance, just as I have been fortunate enough to receive
mine."
Dr. Chanera Philogene
Incoming Resident
Dr. Chanera Philogene is from Union, New Jersey. She received a B.A in Political Science
from Rutgers Univeristy, her M.P.H. in Public Health from Rutgers University, her
M.H.S. in Health Science from Meharry Medical College, and her medical degree from
Meharry Medical College.
"As a future psychiatrist, I desire to implement alternate means of treating mental
health conditions holistically, such as adjusting their diet and incorporating exercise."
Dr. Donald White
Incoming Resident
Dr. Donald White is from Atlanta, Georgia and is a "Morehouse Man". He received a
B.A. degree in Business Administration from Morehouse College, a M.M.S. degree in
Medical Science from Morehouse School of Medicine, and his medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine!
"As a psychiatrist, I plan to decrease the stigma surrounding the field, especially
in my community. Too often, I see members from disadvantaged socioeconomic areas neglecting
mental health or shunning individuals with mental health deficits."
㽶Ƶ Psychiatry Residents Receive Resident Humanism in Teaching Award

Psychiatry Residency’s very own PGY-2, Dr. Roman Tate and PGY-3, Dr. Joshua Omade
were honored as Resident Humanism in Teaching Awardees. They were chosen by the 㽶Ƶ
Class of 2025 and recognized at the Student Clinician Ceremony. The awards are given
in recognition of outstanding residents who have demonstrated particularly strong
teaching skills and served as role models for compassionate, relationship-centered
care. We’re beyond proud of how these young psychiatrists are representing the department
and our profession.
Dr. Joshua Omade
Resident
Dr. Omade was born and raised in the DMV where he attended the University of Maryland
College Park for his Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology as well as his Master of
Science in Physiology from Georgetown University. He completed his medical school
training at Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University.
Throughout his years of schooling Josh has been dedicated to professionalism, mentorship,
and cultivating a healthy learning environment as recognized through his community
service involvement and awards such as his induction into the Gold Humanism Honor
Society. In medicine, Josh is passionate about serving the underserved especially
globally. Josh is a proud son of a Nigerian immigrant and hopes to integrate western
medicinal practice with the cultural norms and healthcare found in his father’s land.
In psychiatry, Josh hopes to one day further his training as a CAP fellow as he is
fervent in his desire to work with the vulnerable pediatric populations and with early
intervention.
Outside of work, Josh has a wide variety of interests. He loves sports both as a former
rugby player and as fan of professional basketball, football, and European soccer.
Josh is a longtime competitive gamer and enjoys building and modifying computers and
personal tech.
Roman Tate, MD was born in Washington D.C but raised in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He attended Xavier University of Louisiana for undergraduate where he received his
Bachelor in Biology Pre-Med and a minor in chemistry. There he became a member of
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated as he held the position of the chapter Exchequer.
He then attended Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.
His main interest currently is adult psychiatry specifically in the outpatient setting
involving psychotherapy. He enjoys traveling to new places, being outdoors, and hanging
out with friends.

Dr. Kisha Holden, our department's Director of Research and Scholarship, is a guest co-editor for
the March 2023 special issue of The American Psychologist - the flagship academic journal of the American Psychological Association. The March
issue is centered on health equity in which Dr. Holden was also a contributor to the
article “How Psychologists Can Help Achieve Equity in Heath Care: Advancing Innovative Partnerships
and Models of Care Delivery.”

Dr. Eugenia Asare
Incoming Resident
Dr. Asare is from Gaithersburg, MD by way of Ghana. She completed her undergraduate
studies at Frostburg State University with a degree in Health Science. She is a graduate of Moreschool School of Medicine!
Her personal experience with mental health and the benefits of therapy sparked her
desire to address the cultural stigma about the effects of mental health in minority
subsets. Her goal is to embrace opportunities to craft a more comprehensive approach
to patient care that advocates for the incorporation of psychiatric services.
Dr. Victor Elensi
Incoming Resident
Dr. Elensi is from Tampa, FL. He completed his undergraduate studies at University
of Florida with a B.S in Health Sciences. He is a graduate of Moreschool School of Medicine!
His interest in psychiatry sparked after his psychiatry rotation at Ridgeview Instititue.
He has an interest in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
“I am Nigerian-American, and my culture unfortunately tends to minimize the very existence
of mental health, but also inflicts a lot of suffering for those growing up in households
where family members experience mental health challenges.”
Dr. Paolo Gilleran

Dr. Gilleran is from Columbus, GA. He completed his undergraduate studies at Georgia
State University with a degree in Nursing. He is a graduate of Moreschool School of Medicine!

Dr. Kiyana Harris
Incoming Resident
Dr. Harris is from Bronx, NY. She completed her undergraduate studies at North Carolina
State University with a B.S in Human Biology. She received a M.S in Psychology from
North Carolina State University. She is a current D.O at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic
Medicine.
She hopes to focus her work on reducing mental health inequities, as this is something
she witnessed growing up in the projects of the South Bronx.
Dr. Terrence Jenkins
Incoming Resident
Dr. Jenkins is from Waynesboro, GA. He completed his undergraduate studies at Valdosta
State University with a degree in Biology. He obtained a Master of Sciences from Morehouse
School of Medicine. He is a graduate of Ross University School of Medicine.
His goal is to use his passion against prejudical thinking and medical knowledge to
not only treat those with addiction, but also those suffering from both biophysical
and psychogenic pain.

for Junior Psychiatrist Investigators

㽶Ƶ faculty member psychiatry and residency alumni, Christopher Villongco, MD, has
been accepted into the APA's . The program has been existence 1996 and is sponsored National Institute on Drug
Abuse, APA Foundation, and American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) with
the participation of many senior psychiatrist researchers and chairs of departments
of psychiatry across the country as mentors. The program aims is to strengthen and
diversify the psychiatrist-scientist workforce and Dr. Villongco was chosen after
a competitive application process.
㽶Ƶ General Psychiatry Residency Alum Dr. Chidi Wamuo's Professional Journey Highlighted
in Psych News

Though 㽶Ƶ General Psychiatry alum Dr. Chidi Wamou started off as an intern in 㽶Ƶ's
Surgery Residency program, when the need for upstream, mental health based interventions
became critically apparent, he dramatically shifted course. , he re-applied in psychiatry and matched into our General Psychiatry training program,
where he made many contributions to the residency. Now a child psychiatry fellow at
Boston Children's, Dr. Wamuo continues to collaborate with 㽶Ƶ faculty and residents,
including a well-received presentation at the APA Mental Health Services last fall
along with mental health advocate and our Interim Chair Dr. Sarah Y. Vinson.

Morehouse School of Medicine’s was well represented at the 2023 Winter GPPA Meeting
in Atlanta, GA on February 17th and 18th. The event kicked-off with a Welcome from the GPPA President, Dr. Sarah Vinson. Dr.
Vinson is also the Interim Chair for our Psychiatry Department as well as the program
Director for the Child and Adolescent (CAP) Psychiatry Fellowship.
Our Program Director for the Psychiatry Residency Program, Dr. Deirdre Evans-Cosby
was part of the discussion panel The Future of Psychiatric Education is Georgia in Good Hands: Fostering the Pipeline
and Innovation in Residency Training. Also, 㽶Ƶ adjunct faculty member, Dr. Beverly Stoute, delivered a presentation,
How Our Mind Becomes Racialized: Lessons from the Therapeutic Encounter.
Additionally, 㽶Ƶ Psychiatry Program faculty, alumni, residents ,and CAP fellows were
in attendance.
㽶Ƶ to Host The 2023 Dewitt Symposium
December 29, 2022
Supported by our dedicated staff, our faculty, residents and fellows are engaged in
a wide variety of scholarly pursuits. Additionally, our faculty hold numerous professional
leadership positions at both regional and national levels. Spring of 2023, we're excited
to host the DeWitt Symposium, which will be a research, advocacy and professional development event for URM Pscychiatry
trainees from throughout the Southeast United States.
The DeWitt Symposium, named for the founding chair of our department, Dr. DeWitt C. Alfred, Jr., is an
annual event at that has traditionally been an internal event, including only our residents and fellow
trainees and faculty. This year, we plan to bring in sixteen residents from other
institutions for a scientific exchange and workshops regarding career progression
and personal sustainability as a psychiatric physician. The program will be held in
Atlanta, GA at the the evening of May 11th through the morning of May 13th, and include a number of activities to promote professional development, career planning,
and mentorship both from peers and faculty. For more information, please click here.
