We are pleased that you have come to learn more about the Morehouse School of Medicine
(Ï㽶ÊÓƵ) Family Medicine Residency Program. As a program, we are committed to training
residents to become family physicians who provide competent, high-quality care to
individuals and families to positively impact the health of communities, with an emphasis
on African American and other historically underserved communities. Through training
in our program, residents build skills in providing excellent, evidence-based preventive,
acute, and chronic care. The exceptional care that is modeled for and delivered by
our residents occurs in a variety of settings, across all age groups, and in both
traditional in-person and telemedicine formats. In keeping with the Morehouse School
of Medicine vision, we further commit to developing in our residents the knowledge
and skills necessary to provide care through a lens aimed at eliminating health inequities.
Importantly, we achieve all of this while supporting our residents’ well-being now
and in the future. . .

Our residents benefit from training at two Safety Net hospitals, Grady Memorial Hospital
and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding. Our primary ambulatory training
site is the Morehouse Healthcare Comprehensive Family Healthcare Center, where the
full scope of family medicine practice and procedures are taught and performed. Residents
also benefit from ambulatory training sites at the Veteran's Administration and the
Grady East Point Neighborhood Clinic. Together, our training sites provide a range
of experiences designed to prepare our graduates to practice in any setting.
Our residents receive training in healthcare leadership, care coordination, community
engagement, population health, and practice-based research. Our point of care ultrasound
curriculum prepares residents to perform common office-based ultrasound and also allows
our trainees to develop skills in conducting more specialized ultrasound procedures
based on their individual interests. The Morehouse School of Medicine Residency Program
is one of the select programs nationally that offers the Lifestyle Medicine Residency
Curriculum. As such, our residents are eligible to sit for the Lifestyle Medicine
Certification Examination upon completion of our program. As future leaders of the
profession, our residents serve on institutional and hospital committees as well as
committees of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians. Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Family Medicine Residents
are trained to become competent, compassionate Board-certified physicians well-equipped
to address the health of the whole person with consideration of the physical, mental,
spiritual, and cultural aspects of the patients we serve.
Resident scholarly activity includes publication in peer-reviewed journals; completion
of quality-improvement research projects; and presentations at local, regional and
national conferences, earning awards for their work at each level. The Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Family
Medicine Residency Program consistently strives for excellence as a function of our
commitment to the learners, patients, and communities we serve.
