Meet the CIO
Morehouse School of Medicine welcomes Fred Sudler as the school's new chief information officer. Fred Sudler is a seasoned technology executive with over 30 years of experience leading the implementation of information technology strategies in multiple organizations. Most recently, he served as the Director of Digital Transformation at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), where he led ORNL's digital transformation efforts and enterprise architecture strategy. Before this, he was Chief Operating Officer (COO) of ORNL's Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate. In this role, Fred aligned ORNL's initiatives with the Department of Energy's Office of Science, driving key lab projects and operations.
Before his tenure at ORNL, Fred held significant leadership roles at Michigan State University (MSU), including Associate Vice President of Information Technology and Associate Chief Information Officer. His diverse roles at MSU, such as Interim Vice President & Chief Information Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Deputy CIO, and Executive Director of Enterprise Applications, allowed him to lead major initiatives like ERP migrations and a comprehensive reorganization of the MSU IT unit. His strategic planning efforts, overseeing a department of over 800 IT professionals with an annual operating budget exceeding $60 million, demonstrate his ability to manage complex projects.
Before his time at MSU, Fred was the Executive Director of Enterprise Systems at the University of North Florida (UNF), overseeing all enterprise-wide systems. He also served as Assistant Dean for Academic Technology at UNF's Coggin College of Business. Fred's educational background, which includes a bachelor's degree in computer information science and an MBA from the University of North Florida, has significantly shaped his career. Earlier in his career, he was a Technology Manager at Price Waterhouse (PWC) and served honorably in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Mayport, FL.
Outside of his professional roles, Fred is deeply committed to his community. He is a dedicated family man, spending quality time with his family and supporting his children in all their academic and extracurricular activities. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as golfing and fishing. His commitment to community service is evident in his role on the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross of East Tennessee.
Clinical IT
Clinical IT is a functional unit within the Department of Information Technology that provides oversight of automated and interoperable clinical application that facilitate optimal patient care and improve medical outcomes.
Customer Services
Customer Services is a functional unit within the Department of Information Technology that provides Audiovisual, Desktop and Help Desk (Tech Bar) support for faculty, students and staff. The technical support services catalog includes software installation, user provisioning, incident reporting, laptop and desktop configurations and technical support for classroom technology.
Enterprise Systems
Enterprise Systems is responsible for the implementation, support and development of numerous applications and tools used by the administrative departments. The department works to ensure the IT tools the school's needs to meet its missions and goals are operational and functioning.
Information Security
Information Security is a functional unit within the Department of Information Technology that protects the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the Institutions data and information systems by providing proactive security expertise, creating and maintaining a resilient and secure infrastructure and fostering a culture of security awareness.
Infrastructure Services
The Information Technology Infrastructure department is responsible for provisioning, managing, and maintaining Ï㽶ÊÓƵ's core technology infrastructure and services. The department strives to manage and enhance enterprise infrastructure and services in support of the school's strategic, tactical, and operational goals.
Office of Project Management
The Office of Project Management is a functional unit within the Department of Information Technology that supports the strategic and tactical components of the institution by executing initiatives utilizing project management methodologies that enable the organization to implement within estimates and expectations while delivering quality products.
