Mission Statement

The Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Department of Public Safety is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors where security is balanced with freedom of movement, and individual rights are balanced with community needs.

The Department of Public Safety strives to achieve this mission through a community friendly approach that enhances safety through the visibility of police and security personnel, preventive patrols, 24-hour accessibility, positive conflict resolution, and crime prevention and awareness programs. The department enforces school policies and established Federal and State Laws in support of the school’s mission; and collaborates with local law enforcement and community organizations in fulfilling its mission.

The success of this mission depends upon a partnership, built on mutual respect and responsibility, between Public Safety personnel, and the diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and visitors that constitute the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ community.

The Morehouse School of Medicine Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Campus Emergency Guide is prepared by the Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to assist in the occurrence of emergencies. 

Preparation is critical to be effective in emergencies. All Ï㽶ÊÓƵ personnel should become familiar with the handbook’s contents. If you are unsure of what you need to do in your building or have any questions, please contact the Department of Public Safety.

Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Mass Alert System is a mass, urgent notification system, comprised of a variety of methods by which the medical school can notify students, faculty and staff of an active, major campus emergency.
